ChatGPT and the New AI Frontier

ChatGPT seemed to bust onto the scene in recent days, but prototypes have been around for a while. Chat [Generated Pretrained Transformer] is the full name of this Artificial Intelligence innovation. It is a chatbot officially launched by Open AI in November of 2022. Currently, people are logging on to get assistance with coding, composing emails, writing essays, etc.

The Vibes of AI

How we see AI technology falls somewhere between the views of venture capitalists and science fiction writers, notwithstanding the Doomsday predictions of Elon Musk and Stephen Hawking. We’ve been both warned and pumped up for AI’s intrusion into the workforce. It’s actually been lurking around for a while.

A few weeks ago, I mentioned Chat GPT to one of my online college students. He slyly grinned and told me that yes, he was familiar with it. This immediately triggered my alarm as to what effects it would have on education, especially at the secondary and college levels. Are the days of studying long past? The days of reading and writing? The days of truly learning and reflecting? Can those of us who are older and put in all that time get a refund? (Lol) Well, it seems the answer is: possibly learning is, well easier now.

Chat GPT is AI technology that can help a person learn about almost everything you can imagine that exists in the world. As an added benefit, the chatbot can learn from its users as well — every time a person interacts with it, it draws from that experience. Wow.

Chat GPT can analyze thousands of web pages and Internet content in mere seconds and give a detailed answer within a set word limit. Users should always explore AI chats with an open mind as it can offer unpredictable ‘answers’ on subjects like religion.

The simplification process and the conversational style of Chat GPT tend to appeal to its users, and the speed of covering the Internet and offering feedback or solutions is truly amazing. So obviously, the entertainment value and the probability of school cheating rises, but also the added benefit of idea generation would serve as a true benefit.
